Episode 2... the California Era
This picture was taken at Thanksgiving by my friend
Alexandra (who rescued me from a night of eating yogurt and raisins alone at my
computer that night). I admit, it's from the DC years, but it's one of the few
recent ones that I have...
Anyhow, since the other page was getting long, I decided to start another page. Make a nice clean break of things, you know?
So here I sit, a California girl. And what might I have been doing with myself over the last four months, you ask. I've been looking for a job, like everyone else. That's the boring answer.
The rest of the story is...
I've been hanging out with my sister and her two girls. They are a great bunch to hang out with. So far, I've been to Girl Scout camp, the local kids science museum, the zoo, an exhibit on the "Wild Things," and lots more. They even came to Christmas dinner. It was nice to have dinner with family for the holiday.
I have made two friends who live an hour or so south of me. They're great fun. I get down to see them, well... not nearly enough. The last time I was there, we all three ate from the ice cream container at the same time and watched a movie... talk about decadent! One of them has even been brave enough to offer to teach me how to drive a stick. We have tried that once. I understand now that the clutch IS my friend (or at least, I'm trying to understand that). Luckily, both of us walked away from that experiment ;o)

Look Ma'... almost straight hair.
I've been spending lots of time enjoying the company of the man in my life. He's wonderfully supportive and great fun to be with. We visit the local modern art museum. Everyone should take their own art expert to museums once in a while. I enjoy working around his house and garden. So far, I have managed not to kill the goldfish. I've been using him as the test guinea pig for my culinary adventures. So far, we've been able to at least force down everything I've produced (darn, I just jinxed it...). Occasionally, I think about when my former roommate would say "Chocolate and tofu just don't mix." She's right, BTW.
He let me decorate the Christmas tree this year. I've never seen a tree before with chili pepper lights... must be a California thing. I worked diligently to produce a number of origami cranes to put on the tree. I'm happy to report that, to date, none of them escaped. I even got a new stocking this year. It's fuzzy and soft and says "MEOW" on it. I knew the tiger side in me would come out eventually. (For those of you who are counting, I'm a Capricorn with the Tiger as my Chinese sign).

Maybe I'm thinking too much.
Many of you may not believe this next sentence. Since I've been here, I've managed to stay out of IRC almost completely. Yes, it is true! I guess a change in environment produces a change in behavior after all. Yeah, sure, I occasionally have a relapse. Right now, I'm studying JAVA. Hey, being a geek does keep me off the streets.
Ok, that's all for now... I gotta go to bed. If there's any typos here, don't let me know.
Hugs,
Julia
